Discovering Whimsy in Barberville: The Yard Art Emporium You Didn’t Know You Needed

Linda and I stumbled upon the Barberville Yard Art Emporium purely by chance one sunny afternoon.
Tucked away at the crossroads of State Road 40 and U.S. 17, in the heart of tiny Barberville, Florida, this colorful roadside attraction took us completely by surprise.

What we found was more than a store—it was a three-acre wonderland packed with handcrafted sculptures, vibrant pottery, and whimsical furniture. It looked like a flea market collided with a folk art museum—then exploded. If you’re the kind of traveler who enjoys the quirky and unexpected, this is your spot.

The Barberville Yard Art Emporium Has A Colorful History

The emporium began over 30 years ago, thanks to Carlos Pendola—a former car dealer from Argentina who traded automobiles for aluminum art. What was his dream? It was to create a place where art wasn’t locked behind glass or museum walls, but laid out in the open for all to enjoy.

Today, the emporium is home to an estimated 800,000 pieces. From recycled sculptures to delicate pottery, each item is chosen with joy in mind.

What’s The Barberville Yard Art Emporium Like Today

When we were wandering the emporium, it was like stepping into a fairytale with a steel spine. We walked past metal giraffes towering overhead, dinosaur statues with goofy grins, and even aliens waiting for a ride home.

Highlights of the Collection:

  • 🎨 Recycled Cast Aluminum Statues – Eagles, mermaids, and other critters, all hand-painted on-site

  • 🌺 Talavera Pottery – Bright and bold ceramics made by Mexican artisans

  • 🌳 Indonesian Teakwood Furniture – Rustic, hand-carved pieces with natural charm

  • 🪓 Chainsaw Art – Local artists carve stunning sculptures straight from tree trunks

Whether you’re hunting for garden art or just want to take it all in, the sheer variety is astounding.

More Than Just a Tourist Stop

This yard art wonderland isn’t just selling art—it’s building community by collaborating with artists from Mexico, Indonesia, and Haiti.  It’s introducing international craftsmanship to Florida backroads. Closer to home, it offers local chainsaw carvers and metalworkers a place to shine.

Barberville’s cultural heartbeat is surprisingly loud for such a small town—and this emporium helps keep it beating strong.
